Low-Cost Emergency Breathing Apparatus

About Our Ventilator

Here at UCSD we were moved by what’s going on around the world during this pandemic and wanted to give back in any way we can. That’s why this spring quarter a team of SEDS members began the development of our own ventilators to see if we could apply our experience with rockets into the medical device field. So far we have designed the functional core of the ventilator and have been designing the parts necessary to assemble our first prototype. Our current objective is to complete the electronics and controls as well as the general housing for our system. To comply with quarantine our members are working remotely with each other to see this project through. To do this we are developing, shipping, and assembling the parts of the system separately while communicating through live video calls. We aim to have a working prototype by the end of the summer.
